My name is Eugene Vindman. I am running for Congress in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Welcome to my Substack! This Substack will be designed to share all the updates about my campaign, where Team Vindman has been on the road, and what we have in store coming up. With the Virginia primary election just months away, our team is in a full court press to turn out voters that will help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. On the trail 

In February, we traveled across the district, hitting events in Prince William County, Lake of the Woods, Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Orange, and elsewhere. Check out some pictures from our time out in the district! 

Endorsements

We also earned some very key endorsements in February from Patrick Murphy, the 32nd Undersecretary of the Army and former acting Secretary of the Army.  

We also earned the support of Fredericksburg City Council member Billy Withers and his wife Alma.

These endorsements come after we have already received the endorsement of VoteVets and Congressman Adam Schiff!

One personal note

I was brought to the United States from the Soviet Union as a child. My family personally experienced the lawlessness of Communist dictatorship. Indeed, those words, lawlessness and dictatorship, have a visceral meaning to me. In bringing us to the land of the free, my father was pursuing the American dream. I’ve lived that dream, which to me has always meant giving back. It has meant working to protect the United States from the threats it faces both at home and abroad. That’s what I would aim to do in Congress. That’s what I’ve done my entire adult life.

As a college student, I enrolled in ROTC. In 1997, I was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. I served all around the country and the world, including as an Airborne Infantry officer in the storied 82nd Airborne Division. I am a veteran of the conflict in Iraq. I know something about war. 

That is why I am so alarmed that MAGA Republicans in Congress may succeed in cutting off U.S. military assistance to Ukraine and our allies abroad. That assistance is the greatest investment in our own security we could make. With it, the once formidable Russian military is being ground down and depleted. With it, Ukrainian democracy can survive. 

Without it, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may triumph.  Without it, Ukraine may fall.  Without it, Europe and the NATO alliance—which Trump wants to dissolve—will be placed in gathering danger.  Without it, Communist China, watching perpetually for American lack of resolve, might be emboldened to strike Taiwan. Nothing less than the peace of the world is at stake.  

2024 will be the most consequential election of my lifetime. Democracy, both at home and abroad, is on the line. The forces of darkness cannot be allowed to prevail. I am intent on doing my part. I am counting on voters to do theirs.
